A port is never finished. The port authority pursues a diversified investment policy in order to offer the existing port clients new infrastructure in the various traffic sectors and to convince new customers to include Zeebrugge in their transport network.
In the Action plan 2010 new policy priorities are bundled. Attention goes to the necessary development of the capacity, the social and commercial aspects, the port internal performance and the long-term strategy.
- Reinforcement of the container capacity through the deepening and the extension of existing quay walls.
- Construction of a new LNG-jetty for the growing LNG traffic.
- Mapping the ecological footprint of the port in order to decrease the CO2 emission by creating ecological alternatives.
- Draw-up of a cost-benefit analysis as basis for a possible cooperation between Zeebrugge and Ostend.
- Improvement of the port internal mobility by the development of a connecting road between roro-terminals, a more efficient traffic organisation at the Pierre Vandamme lock and the extension of the rail marshalling yard.
- A strong commercial strategy, mainly geared at the Asian markets.
- Attracting of investments in distribution and logistic activities, with continuous attention for the accessibility of the port.
- Recovery and reinforcement of the roro and car sector by acquisitions.
- Start-up of a multi-purpose terminal for general cargo and project cargo.
- Development of the technical file and finding a financing agreement for the realisation of a new sea lock and a limited open tidal zone.
